About Us

The National Horseracing Museum opened after a redevelopment in 2016 and is a major visitor attraction and community cultural hub in the heart of our town. It offers a world-class museum, art gallery and study centre alongside a working stable yard with a four-acre paddock for events.

 At NHRM we aim to:

  • share our knowledge of sport, art and heritage, connecting people with Newmarket’s story and inspiring a real sense of place
  • provide a hub for people to get involved, share ideas and link to their community
  • trigger curiosity and inspire interest, encouraging a deeper appreciation of the significance of British sporting culture
  • bring sporting stories to life in surprising, interactive, and dramatic ways that truly capture people’s imagination within and beyond our walls
"The National Heritage Centre has gone from a dream to a drawing and then a full-scale project – it can only have got so far thanks to terrific support from a huge range of people and organisations who all recognise the importance of Newmarket as the international centre for horseracing."

Work With Us

People are at the heart of everything we do here. Our museum sits in the very heart of the community in Newmarket and we are always looking for volunteers to help us to deliver a brilliant visitor experience and to link up with our community through helping with events and creative activities.

From time to time, the Museum has job vacancies and these vary across Museum collections, working with horses, facilities management, retail and visitor experience.

There are many opportunities to develop and grow working with us. No two days are the same, whether you are looking to volunteer, complete a work placement or take up employment, our museum provides a warm welcoming and supportive environment.

Volunteering opportunities

We have a varied range of volunteering opportunities for young people aged 18 to 21 years, from working with our retired racehorses in the Rothschild Yard to working as a volunteer host in our special exhibitions. Find out more by visiting our Volunteers page:
