About us

Getting the right health care when it is needed is important to everyone.

As the population changes and health care technologies improve, plans need to be put in place to make sure that the right services are available to you and your family.

Clinicians from West Suffolk are taking a central role in planning these services. NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group is made up of members from 25 surgeries stretching from Sudbury to Haverhill and Newmarket to Woolpit.

West Suffolk CCG is committed to continuing to improve local services and will strengthen the local health system by working with our partners, West Suffolk Hospital, community services in Suffolk and Suffolk Mental Health Partnership Trust. We are also working with the local authority via the Health and Wellbeing Board and with Social Care to provide seamless services for those who need social care as well as healthcare.

We aim to continue to common services that improve your health and offer value to the health care system especially in the current challenging fiscal environment.

Our mission statement and ambitions

Our mission statement

The CCG has developed its own distinctive ambition and underpinning priorities to accelerate the delivery of Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) and provide a local approach for delivery of the Suffolk Health and Wellbeing strategy.

At the heart of our ambition is the view that greater integrated working is the primary vehicle to improve the quality of the local health services. The CCG therefore has the following ambition to deliver the highest quality health service in West Suffolk through integrated working.

The term integration means a number of things to a number of people. The way it is conceived in this context is around identifying opportunities for better team working, where this will lead to an improvement in service delivery. The evidence shows us, for example, that there are many opportunities to improve older people’s services through better team working across NHS partners, the voluntary and community sector and with local government. The spirit of our ambition is captured perfectly by principle 5 in the NHS Constitution:

 The NHS works across organisational boundaries and in partnership with other organisations in the interest of patients, local communities and the wider population. The NHS is an integrated system of organisations and services bound together by the principles and values now reflected in the Constitution. The NHS is committed to working jointly with local authorities and a wide range of other private, public and third sector organisations at national and local level to provide and deliver improvements in health and well-being."

Our ambitions

Supporting the delivery of the CCG ambition are six priorities, which are as follows:

  • Develop clinical leadership;
  • Demonstrate excellence in patient experience and patient engagement;
  • Improve the health and care of older people;
  • Improve access to mental health services;
  • Improve health and wellbeing through partnership working;
  • Deliver financial sustainability through quality improvement
