Job Description

Kitchen fitters will install kitchens in residential homes and in commercial premises, they will measure and assemble each kitchen unit and cut and fit worktops using a range of power or hand tools.

Entry Requirements

There are no set requirements, but you’ll usually come into the job with experience and qualifications from other trades. These can include joinery, plumbing and electrical installation, or related experience like cabinet making, plastering or tiling.

You could get into this job through an apprenticeship with a building company, then move into kitchen and bathroom fitting.

You could also do a college course in installation.

Career Path and Progression

You could find work with building companies, design agencies, kitchen and bathroom manufacturers and retailers. You could also set up your own business.

With further training, like in computer aided design (CAD), you could move into planning and installation design. 

In a larger company, you could progress to become a business development manager, area sales coordinator, or project manager leading a team of designers and installers.

National Government Policy states that all students should have achieved at least a Grade 4 or C Grade in English & Maths at GCSE.  Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase the opportunities open to you, support your future career development and prospects.

Students who do not meet this standard will be supported to continue to study English and Maths through full-time education or an Apprenticeship.

Required Skills

  • Good practical and problem solving skills are required
  • The ability to follow technical drawings and mark out accurate measurements would also be essential

Starting Salary

£13,500 to £35,000
