Mid green job

CAD Engineers use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs – software for virtually designing 2D or 3D renderings of products, buildings or other infrastructure.  CAD models are used early in project scoping and right through the design phase to test and present ideas, and to finalise plans before construction or manufacturing begins.  A rapidly growing emphasis on making products and engineering projects greener means CAD is vital in making sure these considerations are prominent throughout project lifecycles.  CAD designers are also often involved with things like recommendations for materials, client liaison and ensuring that designs conform to requests, constraints and regulations.

To become a CAD Engineer you could do a degree in IT, Engineering, Design, Architecture or Manufacturing, supported by an internship either during or afterwards.  Apprenticeships at Technician level are also available as a way in, and additional CAD related qualifications at BTEC and Diploma levels will help any aspiring CAD Engineer.

Salary range: £27,000-£40,000+
