Job Description

Wall and floor tilers will fit tiles for different areas which could include home bathrooms or kitchens as well as rooms in restaurants, shops and hotels.  You could also be involved in commercial work such as swimming pools and mosaics. Materials used could include ceramic, stone, glass, plastic, marble and granite.

Entry Requirements

There are no set requirements but you’ll usually need experience and a qualification in wall and floor tiling.

You may also need a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card to work on some sites. Your employer may be able to help you get one when you start.

You may also be able to start as a tiler’s assistant and train on the job, or you could get into this job through an apprenticeship.

Career Path and Progression

With experience and extra training, you could become a site supervisor, clerk of works or contract manager.
You could also work as a trainer and assessor on tiling courses or set up your own business.

National Government Policy states that all students should have achieved at least a Grade 4 or C Grade in English & Maths at GCSE.  Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase the opportunities open to you, support your future career development and prospects.

Students who do not meet this standard will be supported to continue to study English and Maths through full-time education or an Apprenticeship.
