The UK Ports and Logistics sector is massively important to the UK economy, it is the industry that gets food to the supermarkets, products into shops, petrol to the garage, transports oil and gas to heat your home and even helps you move house.

Shipping and Logistics in Suffolk is a huge business and employs in the region of 15,000 people (2013; including lorry driving, loading, dock work, and strategic operations. The Port of Felixstowe is Britain’s biggest and busiest container port and one of the largest in Europe and it is right on your doorstep!

Suffolk’s ports are critical to the UK economy and their proximity is a key advantage for many businesses across the county backed by a fast-moving logistics network. The Ports of Felixstowe, Ipswich and Lowestoft play a vital role in the county’s economic growth whether exporting grain, importing building materials or servicing offshore windfarms. The Haven Gateway ports, shipping and logistics has an annual turnover of approximately £3 billion and indirectly employees 32,200 people across the sub region, which is 11.3% of jobs in the sector.
