Overview

Agriculture is much more than mud and tractors, it is the industry that makes sure we’re all fed – now and in the future.

The latest in science and technology are used to make crops and plants grow bigger faster and more resilient to disease and even grow in completely different climates!

In addition to crops and plants, agriculture sees that farmers can rear animals in safer, happier conditions to make food for the whole country that everyone can afford.

Norfolk and Suffolk have a world-class agricultural, food and drink sector which employs 112,500 people.

The East is also home to a world-leading research base centred at Norwich Research Park (NRP). NRP is Europe’s largest single site hub of research, training, education and enterprise in health, food and environmental sciences and is at the forefront of global agri-tech research.

In the Agriculture Industry there are roles for everyone – from scientific research into creating the latest pesticides, feeds and fertilisers though to the growing of crops, rearing of livestock, animal welfare and veterinary sciences. There is also the massive business of sourcing and trading crops and animals and all the technology surrounding it, such as heavy machinery, information technology and even AgriTech as farmers look to brand new machines and even robots to help around the farm!

Finally, there is wildlife conservation, zoos, vets, gardeners, traders and garden centres that allows everyone to become involved in the industry. It’s a big business! Take a look at the various links and job roles to see what could be in store for you.
