The Finance Industry is the sector involved in banking, accounting and insurance and is responsible for 7% of all UK employment.

There are many different options available from stock brokers, savings and mortgage advisers to underwriters who advise on insurance risks and everything in between!

The great thing about the industry is that is that there are loads of routes in, and the big players can help with this as they have many graduate, apprenticeship and training schemes. Check out what companies like Barclays offer and try to find other companies that offer similar things.

Many of the bigger financial companies also offer the opportunity to work overseas if you wish, this is where a second language would be beneficial!

Financial and business services make the largest private sector contribution to Norfolk’s economy, with over 180 companies. Norwich is also one of the largest general insurance centres in Europe. In recent years, the sector has expanded to the nearby Broadland Business Park, with Aviva having a major base there, as well as in the city centre, together with Royal Bank of Scotland. Other leading companies include: Marsh, Virgin Money, The One Account, Tax Assist and Moneyfacts.

Norwich has been a base for the financial industries for over 200 years and boasts a financially literate, highly-skilled and stable workforce recruited from local colleges and universities as well as the very first National Skills Academy in the UK for Financial services.

Suffolk also boasts an impressive financial sector with the addition of niche markets around marine insurance linked to the county’s ports, farm and crop insurance and thatched property insurance in rural areas, plus a host of small
financial service businesses.

Suffolk has seen a significant increase in the number of finance and insurance businesses taking advantage of relatively cheap property costs, easy access to London, good availability of related training and education plus an experienced workforce.

Take a look at the sectors here to find out more about a career in finance.
